Yes, I know this is difficult to do, yes they're actually my pictures, and no they're not just screen shots from a video. A tip to take photos of lightning on a DSLR camera is to have your shutter speed very low. It may not seem like a lot between your shutter being open for one second or three. However, the average duration of time for a lightning strike is 30 microseconds. It shouldn't be to hard to piece together in your head that an extra 2 second will get you that beautiful shot.
